Renovation tip #1

For those of you thinking of putting in wood flooring- from experience I speak. Do NOT use soft wood. Never, never, never. It's stupid. The people who did our rental used redwood. It scratches like a motherfucker. It's dumb. Cat claws scratch it. It is much like balsawood. Stupid flooring.

It's surprising how many people don't think of that. My boss has cherry flooring, I think, in the house he bought. He hates it. No shoes allowed in his house, you can bet.

That's why WE'RE going to do Lyptus or Bamboo. ^_^

It's just such a pain in our ass- we see new gouges and scratches- from pets and furniture and god knows what the hell else. And then we wonder about our deposit. And we're sad. So yeah- bamboo is the way. Or hardwood is nice- we had that in Bozeman and never had any problems. And they were lovely floors.

I'd say go with Kent's heritage and put in tatami. Sure, it's a haven for mites and mold, but one of the cooler properties is the way spills just soak in and disappear. Of course the kitties will fuck it up, but they will love doing it so much. Besides, you can through it out every couple of years.

If it were actually our house, and I had disposable income to spare, we would say fuck this shit, tear out this redwood crap and do the real hardwood, or pergo. Or bamboo. But this stuff is just silly. Tatami is available hereabouts, but is so blasted expensive that I wouldn't even dream. NO more delicate flooring!!!
